During my time at Old Dominion University, I’ve been exposed to new and exciting forms of communication within my degree plan. One of those was creating my Wix website. I didn’t find most of the setup easy the first go around because I built it from scratch. After seeing different templates, things became easier. The most challenging part was making sure all my action buttons would take me to the right pages or hyperlink sites. Right now, I feel content with my professional online presence but there’s room for improvement. I think for a beginner I’m managing but I’d like to be better versed with website building. I would like to add more interactive options as I add on to my website.
One of my best experiences with a leadership is with my current military mentor. I met her at a development course, and I immediately gravitated towards her. She’s very direct like me and has a wealth of knowledge. I never have to worry if she’s holding back and I know all her advice is coming from a genuine place. She gives me the guidance I need to become a better Senior Non-Commissioned Officer in the Air Force and ensures I keep a healthy work/ life balance.
One event I attended that was poorly managed was a spoken word event at an art museum. The concept was great, but it was poorly promoted. This effected the turnout which I believe could have been better if they prioritized advertisement. The one thing I would have done differently is leaned on the community to promote the event. I would have made flyers to post in communal areas like barber shops, parks, community centers, etc. As of now, I don’t have any questions about the ePortfolio project but I’m excited to see how I develop it over the course of this semester.
